I feel very privileged to have the last word on our classroom blog this term. The students of Room 17 have been doing such an incredible job of writing and collaborating to create the blog that I feel slightly out of place and a bit lonely writing this by myself.

As you will see in this post they have been far too busy this week to blog.
We had a visitor all the way from America called Caleb. Caleb is an art teacher a bit like Whaea Dagmar and he is also her friend. Caleb asked us to draw two pieces of art for him. One was of what we would love to eat at our dream birthday party and the other was of what we thought an African Jungle looked like. He brought with him some amazing felts and colouring pencils which we get to keep in our classroom.
The really exciting part of this project is that our

 pieces of art are going to be part of an exhibition in Utah in America alongside the art of some american students who were asked to draw the same thing.
After the exhibition Caleb is going to send us back our art and we hope we will get to see how ours was different or the same as the students in America.

This week we were also given the opportunity to visit the classes of Te Roopuu o Nga Manukura (Rooms 14, 19, 20 and 21). They
 shared their learning with us. We learned about how to create a strong password, what to do if we feel if we are being cyber-bullied and which sites are for our learning and which sites are for personal and social use at home.

Making popcorn!

 On Thursday afternoon Te Manawa had it's end of term celebration.
Room 18 presented their play, Room 15 did their digital citizenship rap and car wash dance and Room 17 made popcorn for the 132 students and staff of Te Manawa. Then we had the premiere of Te Manawa's movie THE SECRET SEVEN from our day of seven actions of good citizenship.

As if this term wasn't amazing enough Room 17 won LEVI the assembly bear at the last assembly of the term for their fantastic behaviour. Some witnesses might say I did an embarrassing victory dance, I can't remember - I was too happy!
It means that LEVI will live in Room 17 for the holidays and we will get to sit on the seats on the stage during the next assembly.

 I hope that you have a safe and happy time these holidays. I will see you back, ready and rested for term three on Monday 21st July.

“Ahhh sooo c-c-cold...” Have you ever showered in public!? Well we have, with clothes on!

On Thursday of 26th of June Te Manawa decided to do a secret plan for the staff of SPS because we appreciate the things they do for us.

First, we all changed into our spare clothes and quickly lined up and walked crookedly and got our rag and then stood in front of the car we have to wash. David ran to the tap to get some water and ran back slowly and splashed the water in the car and most of us got wet mostly Charlize “hahaha” thats all you could hear.

Secondly, we heard a dance coming along and of course it was room 15 doing a car wash dance. After we finished our first car we walked and moved on to the second car and started again! Charlize got wet again and so did Ayen.

Meanwhile, Jayden came and started taking videos of us so we kept on wiping wiping wiping all of the sudden Whaea Emma said “Team 3 go to the next car” so we did. It was awesome!

Finally, we finished everything and realised we had had a fun shower in public!

Blogging Brunch was a great success!

On Thursday 27th June we witnessed something amazing called the Blogging Brunch run by year 5 and 6’s in Room 17. Their plan was to invite heaps of people who did not know how to comment on Sylvia Park School blogs. Not only that, they served their customers with a scone and a cup of coffee or a cup of tea. If you brought your child or your toddler they put them in their baby centre with chocolate fingers to eat, trains to play with and colouring sheets too.

                                          

             ROOM 17’s BLOGGING BRUNCH

Three weeks ago room 17 had planned their secret seven action day by creating a blogging brunch.They got into three groups(marketing team, tech team and hospitality team).

They made invitations so that they could get working they also made scones with a choice of strawberry or plum jam and cream so that there customers were not starving.

They then made hot drinks so that there customers were not thirsty and so that they were nice and warm (tea with milk or sugar, coffee with milk or sugar, and milo with milk,sugar or marshmallows).

It was time their first customer was walking with three other people a toddler, a sibling and another sibling. The first customer looked happy but when her order came she looked like she wanted to stay and that was how it was for the rest of the day but a lot better.

LEARN TO COMMENT WITH US!

On Thursday 26th June, we had our Blogging Bunch. The tech team taught the uncles, aunts, mums, dads and grandparents how to comment on our blog and other classrooms. The Hospitality team made scones with Maria  the day before so we could hand it out to the visitors. Mitchy, Sharon, Areez, Mana was looking after toddlers in the toddler area just incase visitors brought their babies.   

ROOM 17`S BLOGGING BRUNCH

Three weeks ago room 17 and the whole of Te Manawa came up with a day called the secret 7. Room 17`s part of the whole thing was that we can make our school a better place for kids who want to come to Sylvia Park School in the future and so they can set a good example.

We had 3 groups and there names were the marketing team, the tech team and the hospitality team. They had to go into separate groups. We had to help the parents get on to our Sylvia Park School blog with 9 easy steps. We had to tell them all the steps then after they finished they were interviewed. We asked the parents about how their day was and what we could do better next time.

On Thursday 26th June 2014 Sylvia park School had it's day called ‘Secret Seven’. The Te Manawa team cleaned the school. Each class was doing something. Also room 17 was doing something just like the geek cafe. They have taught community members how to comment on their blogs. They have also served food to them to show their good citizenship. They have also been showing good citizenship by washing the teacher's cars. Room 12 gave them a loom band with a thank you teacher note on it to. We did all of this because the teachers always do things for kids and now its the kids time to shine.

Everything is awesome...when you are part of a team!

Native garden clean up

On Thursday the 26th June the whole of Te Manawa went around the school to pick up rubbish but it was called the native garden clean up because we focussed on our gardens but really we cleaned up the whole school.

What is a native garden clean up? Well a native clean up is when you go through and find rubbish in the trees, bushes and plants and it is working outside.

Different classes were doing different areas like the park, court, back gardens and the pathway.

Then because Room 17 is very responsible we went out of school to look for some more rubbish on the pathways around our school. We know we would have impressed our parents because they will think that our school is a very healthy and clean environment. We feel proud that we were able to contribute to this.

Making scones for the blogging brunch with Maria

Today is the 24/06/14 and we just made scones with Maria!

First we had to wash our hands (what good chef does not wash their hands?)

Next we added the flour, sugar and butter and rubbed it together in our hands. We made sure that there was the flour mixture or it would melt in our hands instead of going into crumbs!

Then we got a cup and added 4 eggs into it. We whisked it so the egg whites and the yolks combined together. We made a mountain with a crater in it and poured the egg mixture in it and slowly pulled the side of the crater into the egg

Soon after it was a nice batter. We took a circle cookie cutter and made the batter nice and round to make the scones format we got to try a bit of the raw batter, it was really nice

After that we brushed a little bit of egg on top of all of them. Then put them in the oven to bake for a while. We were waiting for a long time for it to be finished. It was boring in fact it was REALLY boring!

Finally we got them out of the oven and helped to clean the kitchen and took them back to class with all the utensils as well.

It was cool and really fun (except the boring parts!)

We have been working hard to prepare for our ACTION to answer our Inquiry question; How can we use digital tools to become better Citizens?

Next week on Thursday 26th of  July the Hospitality team will greet our visitors and sit them down on a seat with a member of the Tech Team. Then somebody from the Hospitality team will take their order (waitresses/waiters) and then somebody will start making the drinks and plate up the food. Then Liana, Eneio and I will look after their toddlers.

I hope I do a good job.

I hope we do a good job and I hope you like the way we have taught you to comment which might mean you could comment on this blog!

Come out of the cold and come along to our Blogging Brunch!

You will be welcomed into our classroom and given your own member of our Tech Team who will sit down with you and take you through accessing and commenting on our classroom blogs on a laptop. During this time a member of the Hospitality Team will take your order and you will enjoy a freshly made brunch muffin and warm drink. The Hospitality Team have even thought about keeping your toddler occupied.  On the day there will be a preschoolers corner with great activities and they will keep a watchful eye on them. You also may be asked for your feedback either in a survey or on video.

A Rippin' Good Time!

On Wednesday room 17 went to it’s second clinic of rippa rugby. It was really fun! We had to do a running race  between two teams and it was hard. Unfortunately it started to rain so we went inside of room 23 (the new classroom) We had to take off our shoes and then played catch. When the rain stopped we all went outside and played real rippa rugby again and it was great fun .

When room 17 does it's rugby lesson it is really fun. We learn about passing and the rules of rugby. We have a coach from outside of school and we have to wear ripping strips which get pulled off instead of tackling.
